Research Points are a big part of Victoria II. They allow you to research new technologies and progress in the game. If you want to increase your research points with console commands you've come to the right guide.

In order to use console commands, you'll need to know how to use the Victoria II console. To open the console, press the ` (grave) or ~ (tilde) key on your keyboard. To send commands type them into the text box and hit your ENTER key. For more help, see: Victoria 2 Console Help.

For the third time in three years Cheat Pack gets a update! The focus for V1.2 was cleaning up the interface/optimizing functions and adding the possibility of launching some events. Many options have been renamed. However new cheat options are available in a number of different areas (Where italics indicate new cheats): BasicCheats: Westernize.

If you have the Hearts of Darkness DLC installed (see below if not), you can use the debug researchpoints command. All you have to do is type debug researchpoints, followed by a space and the amount of research points you wish to add, into the console. If you wanted to add 100 research points, you'd use this command:

debug researchpoints 100

And to add 1,200, you would use this command:

debug researchpoints 1200

If you don't have the Hearts of Darkness DLC, fear not, for you can use commands to start events that give you research points! An event you can use to add research points is the 'Colonial Exposition' event, this event gives you the option of gaining 200 research points. To run this event, type the following into your console:

event 14550

Repeat the above command until you get to your desired amount of research points!

Note: This procedure involves editing a game file; create a backup copy of the file before proceeding. Start a new game with any country. The best choice is the one that is currently occupying the unselectable country that you want to play as. Note the provinces and their current owner. For example, assume you want to play with Croatia. Croatian provinces belong to Austria at the start of the game. Use a text editor to edit the files in the 'historyprovincesaustria' directory in the game folder. All the Austrian provinces' files each have a number. The Croatian files are from 770 to 782 (for example, '771 - Zagreb.txt'). Open each file, and they should have entries similar to:

Change the owner and controller to your country's code (for example, CRO). Start the game, and you should now be able to select Croatia at the beginning.
